ABOUT THIS ARTIST
My name is Harold Dumas, and I was born in Chicopee, Mass in 1954. I grew up in Ludlow Mass and currently reside in Holyoke Mass, where I paint out of my home and create original oil paintings, realitic landscapes, urban scenes, seascapes, bright, vibrant, and peaceful. My earliest artistic influence came from my father, who was skilled in pencil and charcoal portrait drawings. As a teenager, I became interested in painting with oils. Initially, I studied "how-to" art books, and later, I followed the work of television artists William Alexander and Bob Ross. In the last twenty years I've followed online courses by Andrew Tischler, Michael James Smith, Mark Carder, and several other artist. I am primarily self-taught, having utilized resources such as books and the internet to develop my skills. I find that Youtube and Patreon are particularly useful for discovering and learning from other artists, as they provide a wealth of information on techniques, tips, and tricks. I continue to use these resources as my guide for teaching myself.I work primarily with oils, using a layering technique. My main focus is on landscapes and cityscapes in my local area of Western Massachusetts, which I paint based on my own photographs. I also enjoy painting still lifes, pets, and portraits.I invite you to enjoy my work and to check in from time to time for new offerings. Additionally, I am available for commissions.
